5 A. ELECTION OF MAYOR FOR ENSUING YEAR B. APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY MAYOR FOR THE ENSUING YEAR pdf icon PDF 249 KB

Minutes:

A.

 

The retiring Mayor, Councillor Gordon Johnson, thanked Council Members and staff, friends and family for their part in making her year of office so enjoyable and wished the incoming Mayor a successful year of office and invited nominations for the office of Mayor for the ensuing Municipal year 2022/23.

 

Councillor Mrs Marilyn Westley was nominated, which was moved and seconded.

Councillors Mrs Westley accepted the nomination.

 

A vote was taken, which was CARRIED

 

Councillor Mrs Westley indicated her acceptance of office.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Mrs Marilyn Westley be elected as Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item, the new Mayor, Councillor Mrs Westley:

 

1.     Was dressed in the Mayor's robes and invested in the Mayor's Chain and Badge of Office and made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office, following which she assumed the Chair.

 

2.     Expressed her thanks to the proposer and seconder, and to the Council for the honour conferred upon her, in electing her as Mayor, before presenting Councillor Johnson, the retiring Mayor, with his Past Mayor's engraved Shield.

 

3.    The outgoing Mayor presented the outgoing Mayoress, Mrs Jacqueline Johnson, with flowers.

 

4.    The new Mayor, Councillor Mrs Westley, presented the New Mayoress, Mrs Doreen Stephenson, with the Mayoress' Chain and Badge of Office.)

 

B.       APPOINTMENT OF DEPUTY MAYOR FOR THE ENSUING YEAR

 

The Mayor invited nominations for the appointment of Deputy Mayor.

 

Councillor Kate Mitchell was nominated, which was moved and seconded.

 

Councillor Mitchell accepted the nomination.

 

A vote was taken, which was CARRIED

 

Councillor Mitchell signified her acceptance of office.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Kate Mitchell be appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item, the new Deputy Mayor, Councillor Kate Mitchell:

 

1.     Made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office and assumed the Deputy Mayor's Chair. 

 

2.     Thanked the Council for the honour of allowing her to serve as Deputy Mayor.

 

3.     The Mayor presented the Deputy Mayoress, Mrs Carol Davies, with the Deputy Mayoress' Chain and Badge of Office.)

The retiring Mayor, Councillor Terry Aldridge, thanked Council Members and staff, friends and family for their part in making her year of office so enjoyable and wished the incoming Mayor a successful year of office and invited nominations for the office of Mayor for the ensuing Municipal year 2021/22.

 

The following nominations, were moved and seconded:

·         Councillor Maureen Nixon

·         Councillor Gordon Johnson

 

Councillors Nixon and Johnson accepted the nomination.

 

A vote was taken as follows:

 

Councillor Maureen Nixon – 26 (TWENTY-SIX)

Councillor Gordon Johnson – 27 (TWENTY-SEVEN)

 

Councillor Gordon Johnson indicated his acceptance of office.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Gordon Johnson be elected as Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item, the new Mayor, Councillor Gordon Johnson:

 

1.    Was dressed in the Mayor's robes and invested in the Mayor's Chain and Badge of Office and made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office, following which he assumed the Chair.

 

2.    Expressed his thanks to the proposer and seconder, and to the Council for the honour conferred upon him, in electing him as Mayor, before presenting Councillor Aldridge, the retiring Mayor, with his Past Mayor's engraved Shield.

 

3.    Informed Members that his Mayoress would be Jacqueline Johnson.)

 

B.

 

The Mayor invited nominations for the appointment of Deputy Mayor.

 

The following nominations, were moved and seconded:

·         Councillor Terry Devine

·         Councillor Marilyn Westley

 

Councillors Devine and Mrs Westley accepted the nomination.

 

A vote was taken as follows:

 

Councillor Terry Devine – 26 (TWENTY SIX)

Councillor Marilyn Westley - 27, (TWENTY SEVEN)

 

Councillor Mrs Westley signified her acceptance of office.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Marilyn Westley be appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item, the new Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mrs Marilyn Westley:

 

1.    Made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office and assumed the Deputy Mayor's Chair. 

 

2.    Thanked the Council for the honour of allowing her to serve as Deputy Mayor.

 

3.    Informed Members that her Deputy Mayoress would be Councillor Doreen Stephenson.)

"That Councillor Terence Aldridge be elected Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year."

 

A vote was taken, the Motion was CARRIED.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Terence Aldridge be elected as Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item:

 

1.    Councillor Aldridge signified his acceptance of the Office and made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office, following which he assumed the Chair.

 

2.    The New Mayor, Councillor Aldridge, expressed his thanks to the proposer and seconder, and to the Council for the honour conferred upon him, in electing him as Mayor.

 

3.    The New Mayor, Councillor Aldridge informed Members that his Mayoress would be Margaret Ball.)

 

B.

 

The Mayor invited nominations for the appointment of Deputy Mayor.

"That Councillor Maureen Nixon be appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year."

 

A vote was taken, the Motion was CARRIED.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Maureen Nixon be appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item:

 

1.    Councillor Nixon signified her acceptance of Office and she made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office and assumed the Deputy Mayor's Chair.  The Deputy Mayor then thanked the Council for the honour of allowing her to serve as Deputy Mayor.

 

2.    The Deputy Mayor informed Members that her Consort would be Laughton Wilkinson.)

"That Councillor Gaynar Owen be elected Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year."

1.     Councillor Owen signified her acceptance of the Office and after she had been dressed in the Mayor's robes and invested in the Mayor's Chain and Badge of Office, she made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office, following which she assumed the Chair.

 

2.     The New Mayor, Councillor Owen, expressed her thanks to the proposer and seconder, and to the Council for the honour conferred upon her in electing her as Mayor, before presenting Councillor Delaney, the retiring Mayor, with his Past Mayor's engraved Shield.

 

3.     The Mayor presented the outgoing Mayoress, Ms Ann Stubbert, with her past Mayoress's engraved Shield.

 

4.    The New Mayor, Councillor Owen, presented the New Mayoress, Ms Lisa Packer, with the Mayoress' Chain and Badge.)

The Mayor invited nominations for the appointment of Deputy Mayor.

 

The following Motion was moved and seconded:

The retiring Mayor, Councillor Furey, thanked Council Members and staff, friends and family for their part in making his year of office so enjoyable and wished the incoming Mayor a successful year of office and invited nominations for the office of Mayor for the ensuing Municipal year 2018/19.

 

Councillor Moran moved the following Motion, which was seconded:

"That Councillor Noel Delaney be elected Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year."

 

A vote was taken, the Motion was CARRIED.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Noel Delaney be elected as Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.

 

(Note, during this item:

 

1.     Councillor Delaney signified his acceptance of the Office and after he had been dressed in the Mayor's robes and invested in the Mayor's Chain and Badge of Office, he made the statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office, following which he assumed the Chair.

 

2.     The New Mayor, Councillor Delaney, expressed his thanks to the proposer, Councillor Moran, and seconder, Councillor Wright, and to the Council for the honour conferred upon him in electing him as Mayor, before presenting Councillor Furey, the retiring Mayor, with his Past Mayor's engraved Shield.

 

3.     The Mayor presented the outgoing Mayoress, Mrs Julie Furey, with her past Mayoress's engraved Shield.

 

4.    The New Mayor, Councillor Delaney, presented the New Mayoress, Mrs Ann Stubbert, with the Mayoress' Chain and Badge.

 

5.     The Mayor and Group Leaders paid tribute to Ann England, Civic PA, who was retiring on 31 May 2018 and she was thanked for her service to the Council.)

 

B.

 

The Mayor invited nomination for the appointment of Deputy Mayor.

 

Councillor Gagen moved the following Motion, which was seconded:

"That Councillor Gaynar Owen be appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year."

 

A vote was taken, the Motion was CARRIED.

 

RESOLVED:   That Councillor Gaynar Owen be appointed Deputy Mayor for the ensuing Municipal Year.
